SELFIE – DUO REALIS JERKBAIT 130SP NEO PEARL

This is about as a good a selfie shot that anyone will get out of me! They always say a picture says a thousand words, but I think ones hands can tell so much more. Hands are simply amazingly resilient, we abuse them constantly with dirt, chemicals, tools, sunburn, sand, salt etc no matter what we do to them they still allow us the versatility sets us apart from every other creature on the planet.

The hand is one of the most complex and beautiful pieces of natural engineering in the human body. It gives us a powerful grip but also allows us to manipulate small objects with great precision and yet can feel anything with great finesse.

I do’t usually work in a studio with autofocus lenses but in cases like this where I’m focusing on my hand, a camera cabled to the Mac Book Pro is the easiest and best way to compose and focus in “selfie mode”. The workhorse of professional lenses, known as a standard zoom or a 24-70mm F2.8, is one of those lenses that you need in your kit and they are incredibly versatile. I’ve owned so many versions of them over the past decades, there’s always been a bit of a love/hate relationship as they are great at one end of the focal range and not the other, but the new Z version sets the standard. Regarded now as the best 24-70mm ever produced, it’s a great lens for literally every situation from landscape to sport to reportage to studio . Even though I love primes, the image quality from this lens is simply stunning.
