HALCO SLIDOG 150 CORAL TROUT

The new Halco “Coral Trout” colour is gaining a huge following especially on the east coast tuna run this winter especially in the Max series but now it’s also available in the Slidog series in all sizes.

Large flat surfaces like found on the Halco Slidog present different challenges in regards to reflection from camera/lens. What does this mean? Well the majority of lure images I see from many companies have a shadow or black line throughout the middle of the lure, that’s refection. Getting it right is where I still rely on my old Sekonic L508 Light Meter, over twenty years old now and still producing the results, it still amazes me that so many photographers that have only used digital don’t know what one is or how to use it. Relying on test shots is just a waste of time, a few test flashes with a light meter saves a huge amount of time and gives you perfect results.

Several months into using the compact Godox Ad300 Pro’s matched with the ADS65W soft boxes and I’m thoroughly impressed especially for small tabletop work. Being so light and compact makes them easy to quickly adjust angles when mounted onto a good C-Stand. Larger lights like my AD600 Pro’s are quite cumbersome, great when I need big light and lots of power but you aren’t using or needing it all the time there’s no need, for small items even with the AD300’s I’m only using ¼ power.

Color temperature is very good, generally around 5300K, which when I do some WB test shots with the Passport Color Checker I WB on the 18% grey card registers at 5250K, so it’s close to almost perfect. If you are going to shoot a lot of shots in the same lighting setup set the flash to the Color Stable Mode so the kelvin rating will remain the same across many images.
