DAIWA PRESSO 2022
Fishing rods are one of the hardest items I do to get perfect, eliminating reflection, shadows, highlights etc on slim subjects is probably the hardest part with multiple colours, metals, cork or eva etc make it even more challenging. I began shooting them during film days before digital, my setup still remains the same… a fully custom-made Lightbox, that delivers images with no reflections, hot spots or shadows.
Lighting power, fstop and speed remain the same as I’m so attuned to shooting them, the only component that is checked every time is white balance. Each rod I shoot a test image with an Xrite Color Checker as each rod rod will change the white balance inside the lightbox.
In light of the difficulties of rod photos, I still love the challenge and its always satisfying when being able to shoot great looking products.
